Robbie Medina, owner of The Rustic Roast, said he is so grateful for the outpouring of support for his new brick-and-mortar coffee shop. Marty Pennell, Chairman of the Alexander County Board of Commissioners, joined Medina and his supporters for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the new shop, located at 926 NC Highway 90 East in Taylorsville.

The Rustic Roast proudly features Black Powder Coffee, a locally roasted favorite known for its bold flavor and small-batch quality. In addition to this signature brew, the coffee shop offers an evolving menu of seasonal lemonade refreshers, hand-crafted espresso drinks, locally made baked goods, and much more, all served in a charming, vintage-inspired cafe with free internet and a spot to relax.
“The Rustic Roast is more than a coffee stop – it’s a reflection of everything we love, such as good coffee, local community, and a space that feels like home,” Medina said. “Some of my favorite memories are built around coffee and time together, and that is the spirit behind The Rustic Roast.”
He established The Rustic Roast on April 1 inside West Main Antiques, but discovered an opportunity to expand at his new location.
“I’m excited to offer Alexander County a space that is more than just a coffee shop – it’s a place to slow down, connect, and enjoy something made with love and passion,” said Medina. “From locally roasted coffee to handmade drinks and locally sourced products, every detail was made to feel personal.”
The Rustic Roast is open Wednesday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
