The Alexander County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is pleased to present the winners of the 2017 Alexander County Readers’ Choice Awards. Working in conjunction with The Taylorsville Times, this awards program is an excellent way to provide much-deserved recognition and honor to the small business community in Alexander County, and is an important component of the EDC’s “Buy Local” campaign. Approximately 12,000 votes were cast in this year’s awards program.
In the special edition, readers will see a complete listing of the many businesses that were voted “Best Overall” and “Outstanding” in Alexander County, along with pictures of proud business owners as they receive their award.
“We hope you’ll support the many businesses recognized by the Readers’ Choice Awards program,” said Gary Herman, Small Business Development Coordinator for the EDC. “It’s a mindset to always think locally, before crossing county borders to do your shopping. We appreciate everyone’s support of our ‘Buy Local’ campaign.”
One of the EDC’s goals is to help retain, promote, and grow existing small businesses, which are essential to the economic vitality of Alexander County. The “Buy Local” campaign continues to gain momentum as the public becomes more aware of the need to support local merchants and keep sales tax dollars in Alexander County.
The awards survey contained approximately 90 blanks in which residents voted for their favorite businesses. Categories included: Dining Out; Having Fun; Professional Services; Community Favorites; Shopping; Health & Wellness; Financial; Automotive; and Out-of-County Favorites. Three lucky survey respondents won $50 each for taking time out of their busy schedules to help promote their favorite businesses.
“This year being the fourth annual Reader’s Choice Awards, it was interesting to see which categories generated the most interest, and which businesses received the most recognition,” Herman stated. “The winning business owners, who were presented framed certificates, have all been excited and honored that the people voted for them, instilling a sense of pride in our business community.”
The EDC would like to express appreciation to the many citizens who cast approximately 12,000 votes in this year’s campaign with almost 400 surveys completed. The Readers’ Choice Awards program is one way to help local residents learn more about the small business community in Alexander County, and heightens awareness of the many businesses and services available here.
“We encourage our citizens to continue to ‘Buy Local’ by supporting our local businesses,” Herman related. “Before you buy, make sure you’re supporting YOUR community, not someone else’s.”
